Playing Notes
The majority of games, which are stableford, are played at Oxley Golf Club. Hit off time is 7:00am - 10:00am from the 1st tee. Away games are played at clubs relatively close to Oxley Golf Club and include Gailes, Laidley, Rosewood, Lowood, Wolston Park, Carbrook and Toowoomba. There are several Sponsor Days during the playing year which are 9.00 oclock shotgun starts and there is generally a nice meal afterwards. Stroke, 4BBB and Ambrose events are also played during the playing year.
Trophies
Depending on playing numbers there are generally three handicap divisions:
1 - 16
17 - 23
24 -36
The winner in each division receives a $40 Trophy Voucher. Runners-Up in each division receive a $20 Trophy Voucher. At Oxley all players compete in the Nearest-the-Pin Competition which is played in the three handicap divisions on the four par 3 holes. Winners receive 2 balls. A generous ball run down is paid on approximately 25% of the top scores for the day.
Club Championship
A club championship is played in the three handicap divisions over three successive weeks and generous trophies can be won.
Veteran Golfers
A Veteran Golfer is a person who has attained the age of 55 years, is an amateur golfer and is a financial playing member of a Golf Club affiliated with Golf Australia, holding a current Golf Australia handicap; and is a member of a Veteran Association, or other body affiliated with the Australian Veteran Golfers Union.
Oxley Vets are affiliated with the Queensland Veteran Golfers Union (QVGU) which has 8400 members statewide. The QVGU runs State Championships in Foursomes and Stroke events. The QVGU is affiliated with the Australian Veteran Golfers Union and this allows Oxley Vets to compete in veteran competitions at a very low cost in clubs across Australia.
